Say I have a bill due for $ 100 tomorrow and I deposited that same amount yesterday. Tonight, I checked my bank balance and the “balance amount” is $ 100 but the “available amount” is only $ 80. Considering I have no outstanding/pending checks ‘out there’, etc., will I get slap with a non sufficient fund morning when other bank decides to withdraw my money for payment via ACH or will I be okay because I would have enough fund to cover the payment?

You need to base it off of your available balance because something has claimed that 20 dollars in your account so you will not have the funds in there to cover the ACH payment. Contact your institution and ask them what the 20 dollar hold is on your account and see about depositing the 20 dollars in there ASAP to cover the ACH transaction.

Through payment gateway you can accept online payments from your clients on your website like 2co.com, moneybookers.com etc and they charge some percentage for providing this service like (.05$ +10%) for transaction > 100$ but exact figurs vary from gateway to gateway and yes you can setup your own for this you need to open merchant account in any bank. but my advice is to go for 2co as they also accept paypal along with credit cards and their fee is less than others and also taking services of any gateway is easier than settingup your own as gateway also provide security for not only client credit card but also for you and client feel more comfortable with well known gateways.

You need a payment gateway to process your on line payments as well as your normal credit card processing card company. They take your customer’s card details over the Internet and perform security checks on your behalf. It’s not to your advantage, because you have to pay twice and it’s not something you can do yourself.
It depends on the volume of business you transact through your site as to whether using a payment gateway is financially viable. For low volume transactions, a company such as paypal to take your online payments will be much much cheaper and it’s very straight forward. Google has also introduced a similar service recently.

Im supposed to get an ACH payment, the payroll said they sent it out this morning and may take a day or two. So funds should be available saturday morning?

ACH payments only settle Monday through Friday at most banks. If they sent it today as a payroll day-cycle item it will credit your account tomorrow. If it was sent as a normal night cycle payroll item you will receive credit on Monday.

A shopping cart is usually used before the payment gateway. This function allows your customers to pick and choose the various items they want to purchase from your website, including options such as size, color, etc. At checkout the shopping cart totals the items, adds tax and shipping and collects the customers shipping and billing information.
The payment gateway captures the credit card transaction, encrypts the transaction information, routes it to the credit card processor and then returns either an approval or a decline notice.
